Architects for the proposed renovation of Port Washington Power Plant have
created renderings of how the plant would look when completed in 2007.
The following images show what the site would look like after the plant is
converted from coal to natural gas.
The most noticeable change would be the elimination of the coal pile. Plans
call for cleanup of the area and public access.
"The goal of the project is to preserve as much of the existing power plant as
possible," architect Steve Greiczek said. Two of the existing walls will be left
in place and every effort will be made to make sure the new construction
matches the existing building. The size of the plant's stacks will be cut in half.
Once the construction is completed, there will be public access to the beach
to the south of the plant, and a recreational path will be built around the
power plant.
